James Manyonge is a Manager in the Policy Division of the Bank Supervision Department of the Central Bank of Kenya. He is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 15 years’ post admission experience. Mr. Manyonge holds a Bachelor of Social Legislation (BSL) degree and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Marathwada University, India and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He is a Certified Public Secretary (K) and has undertaken several other courses in law, bank supervision and anti-money laundering. Mr. Manyonge was called to the bar in 1995 and started his legal career with the law firm of Salim Dhanji & Company Advocates. After one and a half years with that firm, he joined the law firm of Ndungu Njoroge & Kwach Advocates where he was for eight years before joining the Central Bank of Kenya in August, 2004. He has wide and extensive experience in banking law, commercial law and civil litigation. At the Central Bank of Kenya, amongst his other duties, he has been involved in the review and development of several legal and regulatory frameworks and is/has been a member of various Committees and Taskforces looking at various policy, legal and regulatory issues such as review of the Banking Act, Electronic Funds Transfer, Deposit Protection, Credit Referencing, Anti-Money Laundering to name but a few.
