An MBA graduate [with distinction] from England (UK) Pumela is the Director: BPO ( Business Process Outsourcing) at the Department of Trade and Industry (the DIT) in the Strategic Competitiveness Unit . Her responsibility is to draft strategies and policies that will create and enabling environment of the BPO sector in South Africa.
Prior her promotion to the Director position she was Deputy Director for Investment Promotion at Trade and Investment South Africa. She was responsible for attracting Foreign Investors into South Africa. Her role involved convincing potential investors to set up BPO operations in South Africa.
Pumela has made presentations in various business seminars and government events in the United States, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa and Europe, highlighting investment opportunities in South Africa. She also been the head the International Marketing Work stream for BPO& O (Business Process Outsourcing & Offshoring) for South Africa, within the dti. Prior joining the dti Pumela worked for a number of years in various marketing roles in FMCG multinationals and media organizations.She was a founder member of the Unitra Community Radio (UCRfm) , in the Eastern Cape. She has also been a lecturer in Marketing. Having gone to study in England through the Nelson Mandela Scholarship, she is the founder member and Chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Scholarship Alumni Association.
